The Xochimilco axolotl has three pairs of gills, a dorsal fin, and can measure up to 30 cm; black and brown axolotls are common, while pink axolotls are albino. They are threatened by invasive species, pollution, habitat loss, and consumption; they have the ability to regenerate organs such as their brains.
